Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

So here’s what I realised a few days ago.

I was listening to random music and the song Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by BJ Thomas came on.  I was absentmindedly humming along to the lyrics when this caught my attention:

So I just did me some talkin’ to the sun
And I said I didn’t like the way he got things done
Sleepin’ on the job
Those raindrops are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

But a bit after, he sings:

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me

How is telling the Sun that you don’t like the way he’s got things done NOT complaining? In fact, one presumes that he got the rain to stop BECAUSE he complained to the Sun!  I mean, come on!

I still like the song, don’t worry.

  1. I’ve actually had to sing this song in my high school’s choir one year. It was part of a medley that we did. Though, I don’t think I have ever listened to the full version, just the chorus. I don’t think I even spent much time or thought into this song. You’re right, who would complain to the sun and say “Hey Sun, you’re not doing your job!” And low and behold the rain stops. For me, I love the rain. So I wouldn’t complain to the sun that it’s not doing its job. Haha!

  2. I remember that song! Oh wow, isn’t that an oldie song? 😀

  3. I know that song! Yeah, sometimes people take artistic licenses a lot…lol
